Service Description
The Research Storage Request allows a UAlbany faculty sponsor to establish shared Research Storage for a new lab or faculty-led research group.
An eligible research group may receive up to 10 TB of standard shared storage at no cost. Each researcher also receives a 10 GB research home directory.
Research Storage is accessible from supported campus workstations and research computing environments, including the High Performance Computing cluster and AI Supercomputer. Remote access is available through the University VPN.
What’s Included
- Up to 10 TB of shared Research Storage
- A 10 GB research home directory for each researcher
- Hourly snapshots retained for 23 hours and daily snapshots retained for 21 days
- Encryption at rest, compression, and deduplication
- A secondary copy maintained at another location
- Access from supported workstations and research computing environments
- Remote access through the University VPN
What’s Not Included
Eligibility
UAlbany faculty sponsors may submit this request for a new lab or faculty-led research group. Students, staff, and other research collaborators may receive access under the faculty sponsor.
Requestor Responsibilities
- Identify the faculty sponsor and research group
- Identify the initial members and provide their UAlbany NetIDs
- Describe the intended use and data to be stored
- Estimate the storage required
- Identify applicable security, compliance, classification, or agreement requirements
- Manage data within the allocated capacity
- Do not include passwords, access tokens, private keys, or other credentials
