Acceptable use of Brightspace
A non-standard Brightspace course is meant for limited scenarios in which student progress toward degree/certificate completion necessitates course-related activities not included in an officially scheduled course section. Requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Course Management Acknowledgement
By submitting this request form, I acknowledge that, should the request be fulfilled with creation of a non-standard course in Brightspace:
- I am responsible for enrolling participants.
- All participants must have a valid and active UAlbany IT account (NetID) in order to be enrolled in the Brightspace course.
- I am responsible for ensuring FERPA compliance of all activities associated with this course.
Fix an issue with combined course setup.
Please be aware that late changes to course combinations in Brightspace can have adverse impact to students. You should not combine or separate Brightspace course after students have been granted access as this could result in loss of student submissions and inability for students to access course materials.

Sections that are cross-listed or designated as shared resource by the academic department will be designated as a combined section in PeopleSoft and automatically combined in a single Brightspace course. You may request that your other sections be combined into a single Brightspace course.
FERPA Information.
By submitting a request to combine sections, you agree to use Brightspace features in a manner that maintains student privacy in accordance with FERPA, including refraining from using cross-section Discussion posting or Group interaction between sections. Additionally, you acknowledge that the campus will conduct course audits of combined section Brightspace course offerings to ensure features are not used in a manner that could constitute a FERPA violation.

If you use Brightspace in a manner that results in conditions that constitute a violation of FERPA, even unintentionally, the campus is required to take action to eliminate those conditions and communicate the occurrence to all affected students.

Please visit the Registrar website for campus FERPA Guidance.

What is a development course?
Submit this form, if you need to build a course that you will be teaching within a year but has not been created in Brightspace yet. Additional information might be requested of you and ITS will work to respond within 4 days.

Please review the following notes regarding the purpose of a development course:

- You don't need to submit this form to prompt creation of a course listed in the schedule of classes. These are created in Brightspace automatically in March (summer/fall) and October (winter/spring).
- A development course is not the same as a "Sandbox course" that has been created for instructors to explore and learn Brightspace features.
- A development course is intended for instructors to build a Brightspace course expected to be scheduled for a future semester and that has not been created in the system yet.
