Research Data Use Agreement (DUA) Technical Support

When an active data use agreement requires a specific technical action from ITS - such as securely deleting restricted research data at project close, destroying physical media, or retrieving storage access records for a compliance audit - ITS coordinates that work alongside ORRC.

This offering covers the technical execution side of DUA obligations only. For everything upstream - understanding your data obligations, submitting a DUA for review, or building a data management plan - contact ORRC (dua@albany.edu) or visit the University Libraries Data Services site first.

WHAT'S INCLUDED:

- Secure deletion of restricted research data from university storage systems using NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 2-compliant sanitization methods

- Physical media destruction (hard drives, CDs, removable drives) and coordination of destruction documentation for ORRC's compliance record

- Storage access log retrieval to support ORRC audits or compliance reviews

- ITS input on data retention language in DUAs when technical feasibility questions arise during the agreement review process

WHAT'S NOT INCLUDED:

- Initiating or reviewing a DUA, data management planning, or advising on research compliance obligations are handled by ORRC and the University Libraries.

- Setting up a new secure research storage environment is a separate request - submit aResearch Storage Request for that.
