Additional Research Storage Purchase Request

Service Description

The Additional Research Storage Purchase Request allows a UAlbany faculty sponsor to purchase standard Research Storage beyond the initial 10 TB allocation provided to an existing lab or faculty-led research group.

Additional standard Research Storage costs $50 per TB per year. ITS will confirm the requested capacity, storage type, annual cost, and billing information before the purchase proceeds. The faculty sponsor must approve the purchase before the additional storage is allocated.

This request is not intended for purchases by external AI Supercomputer users, which follow a separate process.

What’s Included

• Review of the requested capacity and intended use
• Confirmation of the appropriate storage type, annual cost, and billing information
• Coordination of University billing
• Allocation of the purchased storage to the existing research group
• Applicable Research Storage protections and supported access methods

What’s Not Included

• An initial Research Storage allocation for a new research group. Use the Research Storage Request Form
• Problems accessing or using existing Research Storage. Use the Report an Incident with Research Storage Form
• Temporary or short-term storage increases
• Approval to store restricted, regulated, or otherwise sensitive data

Eligibility

UAlbany faculty sponsors responsible for an existing lab or faculty-led research group may submit this request.

Requestor Responsibilities

• Identify the existing research group
• Specify the amount of additional storage requested
• Describe the intended use and data to be stored
• Identify the computing environments that require access
• Identify applicable security, compliance, classification, or agreement requirements
• Provide the University account information required for billing
• Review the pricing and confirm whether to proceed
• Do not include passwords, access tokens, private keys, or other credentials
